Oregon Data Project

The Oregon DATA Project is funded with a $4.7 million grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences. The grant proposal was a collaborative effort between the Oregon Department of Education and the Education Enterprise Steering Committee, comprised of ODE, ESD, districts and post-secondary partners.

School districts and Education Service Districts are making investments in regional data warehouses as well as starting to train teachers and administrators how to use data to inform instruction. The Oregon Legislature has made an $8.4 million investment in a project that facilitates compliance reporting and the movement of standardized student transcripts across the state, the KIDS data warehouse. The Oregon DATA Project's purpose is to supplement and enhance these accomplishments in a way that is focused on student achievement.

MESD School Improvement as served as the starting point for the DATA Project trainings within our eight district region. MESD supports the efforts of the Project by providing support and training using both by integrating this work into specific content training it offers as well as those developed by the DATA Project. The purpose of both MESD and Project trainings/support on how to use data is to provide continuing professional development and support centered upon improvement of instruction and student achievement. The focus of the work is to assist school teacher teams in implementing a data focus within their professional learning teams. The goal of the work is to foster the teacher teams' understanding of how to use classroom data and student performance data to improve the instruction in the classroom for greater student achievement.

This training assists teacher teams in learning not only data analysis skills but in how to create and sustain an effective professional learning/data team that are consistently scheduled and well facilitated in order to address students' individual learning needs.
