FLS Program referrals can only be initiated by the resident school district.
Referrals can not be made by parents or guardians.
When a child is referred to the FLS Program for placement, a FLS Program supervisor contacts the child's parent or guardin to set up a time for an interview and observation of the child.
If the child is currently in school, the supervisor will also contact the child's teacher for an interview.
Following the observation and interview(s) the supervisor will present the information gathered to the FLS Referral Team along with their recommentation for acceptance of refusal into the FLS Program.
If a child is recommmended for placement in the FLS Program the team then determines which classroom would best suit the child's needs.
The child's resident school district representative (if not present)
is notified of the results of the FLS Referral Team discussion the next business day.
The child's resident district representative will then notify their parent or guardian.
Once a completed referral packet is received from a student's resident school district the process takes approximately 10 working days to complete.
