Shriner's Childrens Hospital

Welcome to the Shriners School Program Website!

The hospital classroom at Portland's Shriners Hospital for Children is located on the 3rd floor with a wonderful view of the city of Portland. We provide small group and individualized instruction to K-12 patients who are admitted primarily for orthopedic and reconstructive surgery, and rehabilitative and therapeutic needs.

The Multnomah ESD teacher and educational assistant help students stay current with their school work and connected to their school and peers in a safe, caring learning enviroment that enriches their stay at the hospital. The classroom is also a place where patients have the opportunity to develop friendships with each other.

With parental/guardian permission, our staff will contact local schools to coordinate assignments and the transfer of homework to and from school and the hospital. In addition to tutoring students with their homework, our program provides many motivating, educationally related activities, art projects, thinking games and computers with educational software and internet access.

The MESD education staff can implement IEP goals for students with special needs. We also help facilitate home-tutoring through the local schools after hospitalization for students who must stay at home to heal before returning to school.
