Welcome!... To the MESD Safety Committee Web Page!

Oregon OSHA requires MESD to establish and administer an effective safety committee (OAR 437-001-0765).

MESD has a centralized District Safety Committee, which meets quarterly and Site-Based Safety Committees, which meet monthly. The District Committee and the Site-Based Committees work together to provide a forum for effectively evaluating safety and health issues in the workplace and to communicate ways to resolve issues by involving all employees.

Safety Committee Purpose:  To bring workers and management together in a non-adversarial, cooperative effort to promote safety and health in the workplace.

• To conduct safety and health promotion/awareness activities leading to prevention of employee injury.

  
  
• To provide an opportunity for open discussion of safety and health issues across MESD programs and work environments.
• To discuss accident investigations, incident/injury causes, and to provide management with suggestions for corrective actions.
• To identify strategies and activities for continuous improvement of safety and health for all MESD employees and to provide recommendations for consideration of implementation by management

The MESD Safety Committee outcomes include reducing workers' compensation claims, enhances employee participation in MESD loss control efforts, the identification of problems and hazards before they cause injuries or illnesses, and the promotion of health, safety and wellness across the agency.
